"Donald Trump Jr. said not in the context of formal meetings, that he may have met with Russian people".

Critics argue the problem is Donald Trump Jr. was open to what emails promised would be information from a foreign government, designed to influence the election. Intangible donations could include information regarding another candidate.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia said he wants to look into the activities of Cambridge Analytica, a data firm that advised Trump's campaign, as well as Trump's digital efforts during the election because of the way false election stories about Hillary Clinton were circulated and targeted online.

Investigations by Congress and the U.S. Justice Department are focusing attention on whether the president's team helped Russian operatives find voting districts in key states in which unexpected campaign weaknesses were discovered. Nearly eight decades later, the same can be said about the Trump administration's relationships with Russia.

He blames Democrats for slowing down the work of the federal goverment, all for one aim.

The Russian government has also denied any knowledge of the meeting. "The president ended the tweet with a broad view of the situation: "#Fake News is DISTORTING DEMOCRACY in our country!"

Sekulow said he was not aware of any other meetings involving Russians. "I've known people up on Capitol Hill who would install their wives as the chief of staff and then you realize you can't fire your wife", he said.

Rinat Akhmetshin, a Russian-American who has lobbied on behalf of Russian causes and admits to being part of a Soviet military counterintelligence unit before emigrating, told the Associated Press yesterday that he was asked to join the Trump Tower meeting by Natalia Veselnitskaya.

In an appearance on ABC's This Week on Sunday, the president's personal attorney, Jay Sekulow, said a "nefarious" meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer wouldn't have occurred without the vetting of the US Secret Service.

Trump Jr.'s eagerness to take the meeting reflected standard "opposition research", Sekulow said. If I'm right, there was nothing inappropriate about hearing out the Russian source in the presence of Akhmetshin or listening to anything Akhmetshin might have added.

President also thanked a former adviser for defending the administration against accusations of colluding with Russia. "I mean, I think that's still in process".
